Why Kris Opened Sequoia
Kris Amarino has been a registered nurse since 1980, with experience spanning neonatal, pediatric, and adult ICU. In the 1990's, Kris owned an RCFE board & care home while operating home health agencies locally, both in supervisory and administrative roles.
Kris felt her patients deserved a higher standard of care than what she was providing at the companies she worked for, so, along with Gary Becker, she opened Sequoia Home Health and Companion Care in 2010. As both owner and operator, Kris has the passion and oversight needed to ensure Sequoia provides nothing less than the best in care for her patients and clients.
The Sequoia staff is treated like family. Maty Tucker and Wendy Christensen have been with Kris from the inception of Sequoia Home Health & Companion Care, and several other team members and clinicians have known and followed Kris for years.
Phrases like, "I couldn't have done it without you," "you allowed mom to stay at home when the alternative was a nursing home," or "thanks to your caring staff, I was able to remain at home safely" are commonly heard words of praise to the staff at Sequoia Home Health & Companion Care. We treat families as if they were our own.
Meet Our Amazing Team
Kris has a sterling reputation within the valley- she has clinicians and administrative staff alike who have followed her from company to company because of her style and work ethic. Her home health experience in case management and administrative roles spans 30 years, and in 2010, Kris opened her own companies, Sequoia Home Health & Sequoia Companion Care. Kris wholeheartedly believes that care and compassion cannot be compromised, and it shows in every aspect of Sequoia.
Kristen Amarino- Owner/Administrator, RN
I began my career with Kris as the manager of Sequoia Companion Care when she opened her doors in 2010. My background lies in education, where I was the administrator for a preschool. That experience serves me well, as I help keep our personal care attendants apprised of ways to help care for our clients, which can include children. Now, as Regional Manager overseeing both the Clovis and Sonora offices, I keep Sequoia Companion Care within compliance. It’s my personal duty to go above and beyond ensuring that my caregivers provide nothing but quality care and compassion to our clients. In my spare time, my family is involved heavily in basketball.
Maty Tucker- Regional Manager, Companion Care
I have been with Sequoia for 4 years. My duties include scheduling, making sure our clients are properly staffed and ensuring our clients are satisfied with the type of care our caregivers are providing. I adjust client and caregiver schedules in emergency situations, and I make monthly visits to our clients to check up and touch base on how our services are going for them. I love my job with Sequoia because I work under amazing supervisors who take the time to get to know our caregivers and our clients. Sequoia is about quality, not quantity, and when I speak to our clients, I love the bond that I have with them. Everyone at Sequoia has the same goal, which is providing top notch customer service and care for our clients. In my spare time I love to spend time with my family, go to the movies, cook & bake, and go on spontaneous road trips.
Taylor Alvarez- Administrative Assistant,
I am responsible for the admission and registration of incoming patients, and I make sure that all required patient information is received and processed. I like everything about Sequoia. Kris is an excellent boss, and I love how well everyone works together. I’m a mountain girl at heart, and I enjoy reading, fishing and just being outdoors.
Shelby Garrett- Intake Coordinator, Home Health
I work almost exclusively with the doctors, their orders and paperwork to ensure our patients are in compliance and the doctors are following through appropriately. I like music and film (especially indies) and dream of traveling the world. I am currently planning a trip to Chicago with my son, where I will consume as much AUTHENTIC CHICAGO STYLE DEEP DISH PIZZA as possible!
Gary has decades of business experience in various arenas, specializing as a highly successful cattleman. He enjoys traveling from Clovis to Colorado on a weekly basis and keeping the financial side of Sequoia Home Health and Companion Care running smoothly.
Gary Becker- Owner
I left my position as executive director of an assisted living community in 2015 to come work with Kris and Sequoia Home Health & Companion Care because of my belief that Sequoia is above all, dedicated to serving the needs of their patients and clients. Aside from our talented clinicians, I’m the face of Sequoia- I educate professionals in the health care industry on the services we provide and serve as concierge in helping facilitate referrals for home health and companion care needs. I make myself available via cell phone 24/7 for referral sources and families in need, because crisis doesn’t happen Monday through Friday 8-5. I’m also involved in committees in the central valley dedicated to serving the senior population. Along with social media marketing, my background in the senior care industry includes senior living consultant work, assisted living and companion care marketing, and Alzheimer’s/dementia care.
Kim Sherman- Business Development Manager, Home Health & Companion Care
I’m usually the voice of Sequoia Home Health- aside from answering phones, keeping HR files up to date, prepping for payroll and ordering supplies, I do whatever is needed to help keep the office running seamlessly. I love talking to the patients when they call and also enjoy all my fabulous coworkers; they are the most caring people I've ever met. When I’m not at the office, I’m spending time with my family and friends poolside, by the campfire, and laughing while playing board games and enjoying outdoor activities.
Tifini Telles- HR Coordinator, Home Health
I schedule our clinicians to visit our homebound patients, and I work with our insurance carriers obtaining authorizations for all visits. You can also find me multi-tasking as the backup Intake person and answering phones when Tifini is away from her desk or on another line. My heart lies with patient care; I love being able to help others, and I love the people I work with and work for. In my spare time, I enjoy crafts and spending time with my family.

Melanie Sinclair- Administrative Assistant,
I’m the voice you’ll hear answering the phone in the Sonora office. Aside from administrative duties, my job involves scheduling, appropriately staffing, and ensuring our clients are satisfied with the care our caregivers are providing. I enjoy giving families the peace of mind knowing that their loved ones are getting the care they so deserve in their later years. In my free time, I love reading and hiking, and I get so much enjoyment from capturing pictures of sunrises and sunsets.

Leslie Johnson- Client Service Supervisor, Sonora
As a pioneer team member since 2010, I work closely with Kris in quality assurance. My background at Sequoia includes intake; currently I review skilled nursing visit notes and doctors orders, maintaining the highest in integrity and compliance. I have a tight knit family-- I enjoy spending time with them & loving on my grandbaby every chance I get.
Wendy Christensen- QA Nurse, Home Health
I love to meet and help people and their families get set up for quality home care and give that comfort and assurance they need in Sonora and the surrounding areas. We go above and beyond to provide care and cover any area we can out of our office. There’s nothing more satisfying than to see a client stay in their home with the excellent care our caregivers provide. In my spare time, I love a good adventure- draft horses, motorcycles, wakeboarding and music are my favorite things to do.
